TucsonCab.com started as a simple way for independent cab drivers to share what most in the business call "personals". From there it has grown to an affiliation of some of the best drivers in the city.

Using leading edge Internet technology provided by GetNetEZ and hosting through their hosting service at HostNetEZ we have been able to provide new service levels for both sides of the taxicab business.

Almost all cab drivers work as Independent Contractors. They rent, lease, or buy a car from one of the major cab companies like Yellow, Courier, Discount, or Allstate. They are responsible for their own business licensing and expenses -- like gasoline. Insurance is usually provided by the leasing company (please see important note below**)

Under these conditions, the driver is then free to attempt to obtain business. Some business comes from the leasing company through their dispatch service. Other business may be found by simply responding to the wave or whistle of someone on the street. Often, a driver will meet a customer who uses cabs often and the customer will want to use the driver on a regular basis. These "personals" will usually call the driver on his personal cell phone when they need a cab.

Invariably, when a "personal" calls the driver will be 10 to 20 miles away and in heavy traffic. The simple solution was to call a cab driving friend and ask the friend to "cover the call". Invariably, the friend would be on the way out of town and not due back for several hours. You can see the sort of tension this could cause.

**Most commonly, insurance is paid for by the leasing company and included as a part of the lease which can be as high as $100 per day. We are only a dispatching service and so cannot control what happens between you and the independent businessman who services your cab request, BUT we strongly encourage you to use discretion and only ride in a cab that is obtained from a major company and thus almost certainly properly insured. If you do not trust the cab you obtain, please feel free to refuse the service and let us know through the Driver Manager button about your concerns and we will research the issue. Any driver who responds to any call from us in a private vehicle will be immediately removed from our dispatch service.
